The US Military armed the Northern Alliance and assorted warlords, supported them with arms and reconnaissance so they were able to kick the Taliban out of power and caused many of them to flee into Pakistan.
The Taliban rule hasn't ended but it has been severely curtailed. When 9/11 occurred Osama bin Laden was blamed (he denies responsibility in fact to this day, he is wanted by the FBI for the bombings of the US embassies in Africa, but not for 9/11). The US requested the Taliban hand over Osama; the Taliban asked for proof first; the US had none but it was known Al-Qaeda had training camps in Afghanistan, so the US government bombed them. Then, in a stroke of genius, the US decided to take over the entire nation of Afghanistan.
This was achieved by bankrolling the Northern Alliance as a private army, the same who are a mishmash of corrupt warlords whose ongoing political rule from Kabul is a joke (but whose geographic position as a transit point for the enormous energy resources of the Caspian region is well-known). During the course of the ongoing US occupation - an occupation of an entire nation and its people who had nothing to do with 9/11 - the Taliban have been driven back but not out. That was 9yrs ago and still the US occupation goes on.

Yes. The Taliban had control of over 90% of Afghanistan throughout the 1990s. They were the more-or-less uncontested rulers of Afghanistan in that period.

The united states and her allies gave weapons to the taliban to end communism in and help them defeat the soviets.
No, because the Taliban wants Pakistans Nukes. Who knows what they will do with them? Jack Dombrowski, genius, said "We must not let the Taliban get Pakistans nukes"
Not at all. The Taliban believed that Kite Fighting, and it's counterpart Kite Running, were un-Islamic and were banned during their rule of Afghanistan.

Mullah Omar ruled Afghanistan very justly. Unfortunately, the Taliban are extremists. They have distorted Islamic teachings of Love, Justice, human brotherhood, kindness, compassion and service to humanity.
