Operation Iraqi Freedom was the codename for the American Invasion of Iraq. The causes of that invasion are, as of yet, not clear. The government of the United States has posited that it was to find Weapons of Mass Destruction and remove Saddam Hussein from power. Others have stipulated that it was on account of American desires for Iraqi Oil.
On October 7, 2001, early combat operations including a mix of strikes from Lancer, B2 Spirit, B52 Bombers carrier-based F-14 Tomcat and F18 Hornets with Tomahawk misiles launched from both US and UK ships and submarines signaled the start of Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan
There are several reasons given for this.
1. There were weapons of mass destruction that Saddam Hussein was going to use against the United States and/or its allies. This has been proven false after the invasion.
2. Saddam Hussein was supporting terrorism and providing a base for al-Qaeda to operate from. This has also been proven false (Hussein was of a different denomination of Islam that opposed al-Qaeda), but it may become partially true as the United States pulls its military personnel from the country.
3. Saddam Hussein was a violent dictator who abused and terrorized his own people. This is true, as far as western media has been able to determine. However, this had been true for over a decade and there had been no significant change in the status quo in the year preceeding the invasion.
4. The United States wanted to control Iraq's oil production. This is actually an urban myth or rumor and has not be substantiated in any form. Point in fact, since the invasion of Iraq the cost of crude oil and gasoline has increased significantly ever since.
5. GW Bush wanted to correct the perceived mistake of his father, George HW Bush, when he chose to not have Hussein removed from power during Operation Desert Storm in the early 1990s. Again, this is an urban myth that has not been substantiated in any form.

Operation Iraqi Freedom means a Military Operation aiming to give freedom to Iraq. However as lot's of people argued before ,being 15k kms away from Iraq and worrying that much for its people's freedom is not American style. In real life operation Iraqi freedom mean: "we want your Crude oil and manage Marketing of the Petroleum Products which we are going to get it, even if it is going to make our thousands Soldiers kill there. and while doing it we will replace the meaning of murder and theft into freedom.
It began in March 2003 and is still going.
They're two different things. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) is obviously the war in Iraq. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) is the war in Afghanistan.
OIF! OEF Operation Enduring Freedom is in Afghanistan.
