∙ 14y agoThe main parties between 1828 and 1854 were the Democratic Party and the Whig Party. Between 1854 and 1860, the Whig Party fell apart and was replaced by the Republican Party. Before 1828, the main parties were Federalist Party and the Democratic-Republican Party, from which the Democratic Party came.

Why was Jefferson opposed against polictical parties? Actually it was Washington who was opposed to political parties. Jefferson helped start a new party to oppose the Federalist. Jefferson was in essence in favor of them instead of opposed to them.
