The only damage it caused was by the yearly flood, however the people soon learnt and turned it to their advantage, especially when they worked-out when the flood period was. The River Nile flooded every year between June and September, in a season the Egyptians called akhet - the inundation. This left thick rich mud (black silt) which was excellent soil to plant seeds in. The ancient Egyptians could grow crops only in the mud left behind when the Nile flooded. So they all had fields all along the River Nile.

How did the Nile River affect the Egyptians?

Simply without the Nile there would be no Egypt just desert, it is Egypt's only river. The river provided a source of water and life in the form of fertile soil to grow food and the annual flood provided extra water and more fertile soil in the form of the silt it left behind. It also provided a means of transport especially in the building of the pyramids etc.

The Nile River is the longest river in the world. It is 4184 mile( 6695 kilometers) long. It runs through Ethiopia, Zaire, Uganda,Kenya,Tanzania, Rwanda,Burundi,Sudan, and Egypt. Would it be good if the Nile River floods?

It could be good agriculturally, and was since the times of Ancient Egypt, when the floods dumped fertile alluvial soil over the Nile River banks. But it could be bad if the floods were severe, because it would wash away any growing crops. Since the construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1970, Egypt gets no Nile floods, beneficial or otherwise. However, they still occur in Sudan, which is above (south of) the dam.
