The first Punic war was mostly a sea engagement over the island of Sicily, simply put the Romans used their disciplined legionaries as marines and boarded enemy ships (that is not the only tactic used but it is the one i feel most prominent). Also the famed general Hannibal was not involved in this one.

The second Punic war, probably the most famous one, was the one most associated with Hannibal. After Hannibal emerged victorious in numerous key battles Rome elected a dictator who adopted a strategy of hit and run small unit to unit tactics not allowing Hannibal to use his superior operational prowess. This worked quite well because Carthage only had about 100 ships to resupply with after the first Punic war and it was impossible to keep a baggage train going over the alps. Hannibal's army eventually starved and had to retreat. Also Rome led an army into Spain which was not under Hannibal's direct leadership and won great victories their. The strategy that was used was named the Fabian strategy after the dictator.

The third Punic war was won by a skilled young general Scipio who beat Hannibal at Zama. mostly because of the fact that he convinced Hannibal's cavalry to defect to him (Hannibal's superior cavalry was his only advantage) and Hannibal had to make do with war elephants that had not been fully trained (it generally took 10 years to train an elephant)
