Veterans Day came to be when WW1 ended, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. At first Veterans Day was called Armstice Day. This day was reserved to acknowledge the courage and the patriotism of the United States who have fought for our country. It wasn't until May 13, 1938 that the law was adopted to make Armstice Day a federal and national holiday for November 11th of each year. Then in June 6 of 1954 Congress changed the named Armstice Day to Veterans Day to honor all of mthe United States.

In 1953 Alfred King had the idea that Armistice day should be a day to honor all veterans. On May 26, 1954 president Dwight Eisenhower signed into law the Armistice Day should be replaced by Veterans Day. The on June 1, 1954 Veterans Day was an official holiday.
