He helped the South as Lee's right-hand man in the Peninsula campaign of summer 1862, making the Confederates look like winners for the first time.

He helped the North by getting mortally wounded at Chancellorsville, after which Lee's army was never so good again. Lee's own health began to decline from this tme, possibly as a psychological reaction to Stonewall's grievous loss.

To say that Stonewall Jackson "helped" the North is incorrect.
