I have no idea of this is true- and there may be more than one Queen Matilda or Matthilde in French- involved. But there was some sort of rhyme that suggested she died during one of the crusades, close to the scene of action. as the sad rhyme goes- something like- thought no one would harm her, but Queen Matthilde, died in the Field, was buried in her armor. I have no way of knowing if this is true. there were Ladies who went on Crusade, and it could have happened. If she died in the field this could have been accidental or health, not necessarily battle death. There were other Lady Knights than Joan of Arc, and some may have been Queens or Princesses- truth can be more interesting than fiction. I find this intriguing but have no clues.
Queen Matilda of Flanders, Queen Mary, Queen Kathryn, Queen Elenor of Aquitaine, Good Queen Maude, Queen Matilda, and Queen Matilda of Boulogne.

Matilda of Flanders was 52 years old when she passed away.
Matilda was the daughter of King Henry I. When King Henry I died, Matilda was his only surviving heir (his other children had died earlier on). Matilda was supposed to be the Queen of England but refused to be crowned because she thought it would lower her dignity as all the previous Queens had only been named Queen because they were married to a king. She said that she was to be called 'the lady of the english'. Matilda ruled England for a few months until her cousin Stephen Blois took the throne from her and was named King Stephen of England.
Queen Matilda, who was also known as Empress Matilda, was an English queen and actually the monarch, for a short while. She fought a long war with King Steven, which finally ended when he agreed to make her son heir. Eleanor of Aquitaine was a famous Queen of England. She was the wife of King Henry II.
