Martin Luther King had nothing to do with the reformation, he was born four centuries too late. You are asking about Martin Luther (King was named after Martin Luther). Martin Luther said he had an enlightenment from God while sitting in the monastery privy - the toilet. After that he posted his "Ninety-Five theses on the Church door at Wittenberg. This event - the posting of the ninety-five theses is what is commonly referred to as the spark of the reformation. Protestants from today would be shocked if they actually read the Ninety-five Theses. They are collection of either very Catholic statements, while the remaining statements are pretty deranged. Martin Luther King Jr. rose to fame after the bus boycott. During his time the Civil Rights Movement was gaining momentum. King changed his ways to try and stop this momentum.
