First and foremost, show RESPECT for the US flag and what it stands for. The US flag stands for liberty and freedom. It stands for all of those who fought for (and those who died for) the liberties we have come to know and love. It stands for the insight and vision that our forefathers had for this new republic. Show respect by standing, removing your hat, and being silent as you watch the flag parade past. Show respect by flying the flag at your home and business, lighting it at night, and seeing that it is replaced when it becomes tattered, torn, and discolored. Wear a US flag pin on your left side over your heart. To do these things is to honor the unique wisdom of our nation's founders who came from various walks of life and pledged their lives and fortunes to fight and struggle for our nations freedom - an individuals' freedom and a nation's freedom of self governing.

Honey, the pledge of allegiance to the Jamaican flag goes like this: "Before God and all mankind, I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart, the wisdom and courage of my mind, the strength and vigour of my body in the service of my fellow citizens." Now go ahead and show some respect to that flag, darling.
When you say "I pledge allegiance" you're saying that you are giving an oath of loyalty. So the line "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America" means that you're giving an oath of loyalty to the United Stated of America.

The American Flag
The US Pledge of Allegiance is meant to show loyalty to the flag and "to the Republic for which it stands" which is the United States of America.
When you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you are showing loyalty to the United States of America, its flag, and the values it represents, including liberty and justice for all.
Since it's creation, the US Flag has stood for freedom and the American way of live. It is the symbol of our country and as a US citizen, I respect the flag and for all those who have died under our Flag to keep freedom alive.
