The Black Death was a specific outbreak of Bubonic Plague. The last widespread outbreak of the bubonic plague was the one called the Third Pandemic, which started in 1855 and ended in 1959. Since that time, there have been a number of cases in which individuals or small groups of people got it, but it was controlled by the use of antibiotics.

spots , smells and rash e have been three major outbreaks of plague. The Plague of Justinian in the 6th and 7th centuries is the first known attack on record, and marks the first firmly recorded pattern of bubonic plague. From historical descriptions, as much as 40 percent of the population of Constantinople died from the plague. Modern estimates suggest half of Europe's population was wiped out before the plague disappeared in the 700s.[2] After 750, major epidemic diseases did not appear again in Europe until the Black Death of the 14th century.[3] The Third Pandemic hit China in the 1890s and devastated India but was confined to limited outbreaks in the west.[4]
The Bubonic Plague, the Black Death, broke out in Europe in the 1400s, long before America had been discovered, much less settled and established.
The black death refers to the bubonic plague, an epidemic initially thought to be carried by rats, but actually traced to the fleas on the rats. The black plague / black death was most destructive in Europe during the middle ages, so few of the victims likely were black. The bubonic plague has been found in America from time to time and is usually associated with rats or squirrels. The disease does not discriminate. It is equally deadly to all races. It was called 'black death' because of the darkening of the skin shortly before death. The skin would become necrotic and develop lenticulae (black dots or splotches).
The original carrier for the plague-infected fleas thought to be responsible for the Black Death was the black rat, and it has been hypothesized that the displacement of black rats by brown rats led to the decline of bubonic plague. This theory has, however, been deprecated, as the dates of these displacements do not match the increases and decreases in plague outbreaks. ~ From Wikipedia ('Brown Rat')
