Brutus did not plan to kill Mark Antony although he most certainly thought about it. Brutus knew Antony was loyal to Caesar and that Antony had military skills. Brutus, however, clearly underestimated the damage that Antony could cause. Brutus made a mistake and he would die for his conspiracy against Caesar.

He laid bare the qualities of Caesar by highlighting his refusal to accept the crown at the festival of Lupercal and referred to his will by telling them that Caesar had left money to each of them and thus proved that he was not ambitious. Antony 's speech nullified all the effect of Brutus' speech and provoked the citizens against the conspirators.

Antony does several things to the conspirators. After they kill Caesar he shakes their blood-soaked hands as if joining them. Then he turns against them by reading Caesars will to Rome and showing Rome his stab wounds, therefor creating pity amongst Rome's citizens. Then he and the conspirators go to war and makes Cassius and Brutus commit scuicide.
