Many types of metal were available to the eastern tribes during the 1750s. Native copper was obtained in the Great Lakes area; it was simply dug up and beaten into shape using stone hammers to make beads, arrow points and other objects.

By the 1750s trade with the English and French was well established and the eastern tribes had access to all kinds of iron, steel and brass goods: axes, knives, guns, arrow points, cooking-pots, tools and many more.
