On the contrary. Most of those who fought during World War I were poor or underprivileged men. The rich were not required to fight in the war. It was during World War I that the Selective Service began.

No, some remained at home as they were too young. Even if they did go to war, some of the men remained at camp and then switched shifts with the men who were actually in the trenches fighting.

I'm sure some were given a pass and didn't fight in WW2, But the two examples I can think of were Joseph Kennedy Jr. (who was killed in the war) and his brother John F. Kennedy who had a PT boat command that was sunk (PT109). President Teddy Roosevelt had a son who was a general and fought in WW2 and died.
