No Menes is thought to have been the son of Narmer who founded the First Dynasty. He is also known as Scorpion. During the first and second dynasties the rulers were buried in rectangular tombs at Umm el-Qaab. They were left unfinished until after the burial when they were covered with a mound of dirt and possibly a small structure of wood and bricks. These structures were likely reused by each succeeding pharoah wich explains why the only one exhisting today -only below ground survives - is the Second Dynasty's last pharoah, Khasekhemwy.
The founder of the Third Dynasty,Djoser, is credited with building the first pyramid, the Step Pyramid at Saqqara.
