"Enola Gay." The B29 Superfortress was named after the mother of pilot Colonel Paul. W. Tibbets, Jr.
The plane had not yet been named until the day of the bombing, as Tibbets named all planes he piloted Enola Gay (his mother's name) he had that painted on its side. The original pilot was very upset when he arrived, but as Tibbets outranked him he could have nothing done about the name. IIRC the original pilot flew as copilot that day.
