When Columbus arrived in 1492 he soon noticed the wealth that the native american possesed. After he had been given a small gold tiara from the natives he saw this as a sign of surrender. He went back to Europe and one year later came to america again with 14 ships, with The Bible in one hand and the sword in the other. He seeked gold and glory but he went in the name of god ( only his opinion).
Columbus claimed the land he discovered in the name of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. He also brought back natives lfrom the new world who had an appearance different from the europeans as well as samples of the food found in the new world.
