Conquistadors came for three reasons . . . God, Gold, and Glory God- they wanted to spread their faith (Catholicism) Gold- can't be much clearer Glory- they wanted to be praised as a great explorer and work their way up the social ladder at home
Cortes, like many explorers and conquistadors, was motivated by the three G's - gold, glory, and God. They wanted riches for themselves, personal glory, and to spread Christianity to the New World peoples. Men like Cortes were far more interested in the "gold and glory" parts of the phrase, and used the God part simply to excuse the atrocities they were committing against the native peoples in the name of Christianity.
Gold Glory God
A conquistador was Spanish and looked only for riches and power. A conquistador had 3 Gs: gold, God, and glory. Gold for riches, God for converting people to Catholicism - since the majority of Spaniards, including royalty were Catholics (and still are) at the time - and glory for power. An exploerer could be from any country and had motivations which were diverse and might include scientific curiosity, personal fame, or they were on a mission from their host country to explore new land and claim it. Conquistadors are gone now, but we still have explorers.
You are right, they did want Gold, Greed and Glory. I'm almost positive the fourth G is God. Gold, Greed, Glory and God. The Conquistadors were Roman Catholics and wanted everyone else to believe in God as they did. Hope that helped :)
If, by Spanish explorers you mean the conquistadors, then it should have been God, Glory and Gold, but it turned out more like Gold, Glory and God.
He wanted power! He wanted to spread his religion, he wanted glory for the spanish, and he wanted riches!
Spanish conquerors who were motivated by religious zeal and the desire for glory and riches were known as conquistadors. They were primarily driven by a mix of religious fervor, ambitions of personal wealth and status, and a commitment to spreading Christianity in the New World. Some of the most famous conquistadors include Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro.
