3. Digital libraries are typically less expensive than traditional libraries. This is because there are little or no costs associated with constructing/purchasing/leasing the building; maintenance of the facility; utilities (water, electricity, gas, phones, internet); staff (fewer people are needed to develop, maintain, and support a digital library),
4. Multiple users can access the same resource at the same time (though some resources may have a limit to the number of users who can access it at the same time)
5. Users can have immediate access to resources - access isn't delayed or prohibited due to holds, restrictions for in-library use only, or incorrect shelving, etc.
6. There is no physical degradation of the resource due to handling, storage, or vandalism.
7. Digital libraries aren't limited in terms of size.
8. Digital libraries can potentially cater better to the needs of users by providing materials that users want and actually use. Some resources may only be officially purchased by the library from a vendor once a certain number of users have accessed the item. In this sense, items that are rarely or never used are not added into the collected and are not paid for, saving the library money.

Disadvantages:

1. Digital libraries can be hacked; this can involve a disruption of services, and/or may cause users's computers to become infected with viruses or malware.
2. There is still a lack of standardization when it comes to digital information.

7. Digital libraries must keep up with rapid changes in technology (including software, hardware, and the internet). Otherwise, the resources it provides will quickly become out-dated or inaccessible.
8. The vast information that a digital library can provide can end up becoming a handicap: the shear volume of information lead to difficulties in finding exactly what a user is looking for (i.e. information overload).
9. Digital libraries require users to read resources via computer screen; in general, physical print is easier to read than print on a computer screen. While e-readers are beneficial in this regard by re-creating the look of physical print, not all e-readers can access all resources offered by a digital library.
10. Issues surrounding ownership: most - if not all - of the digital information made available through a digital library is provided by a third party (i.e. a vendor) for a fee. This fee is for access to the material; the library, in fact, does not own the material. As such, a vendor could easily remove any item from the library's collection without notice and without remuneration and if the library decides to stop a subscription with a vendor, all items that they once had access to will no longer be available. Traditional libraries, however, have complete control and ownership of items once they are purchased.
