My BEST GUESS is because an excess of calcium causes severe side effects. Why this doesn't affect other products with similar ingredients I don't have a cliue. The worst side effects are related to kidney function. I do see it for sale at extremely high prices, Amazon has lowest. but prices vary from $117 - around $6.000. And not for less elsewhere. Per Amazon reviews some people have switched to Gelusil.
