Because salicylism is a mild toxicity due to overdose of aspirin. Signs and symptoms of salicylism are tinnitus (ringing in the ears), headache, parasthesias (tingling sensations), increased respiration, drowsiness, and confusion, and gastro-intestinal distress (aches, pain). The dose of aspirin should be stopped or at least decreased if this happens.
