There are 2 basic types of carpet cleaning: steam cleaning and dry cleaning. Steam cleaning basically uses water and detergents. Dries up in 6 hours or more. Most cleaners would have their machines mounted to their trucks. Dry cleaning can also be called a bonnet method. They vacuum, spot clean and use solvents. The company that I know does not have equipment mounted to their trucks which is easier for me as I live in an apartment complex. It usually takes an hour to dry the carpet. I've used both cleaning and so far I'm happier with dry cleaning because its less hassle.
Steam cleaning method is by far better for residential. Wiltek carpet cleaning is who I used and they were awesome and very honest and never tried to sell me a bunch of extras.
