There are two main types of inhalers, a preventer (usually brown) and a reliever (usually blue).

The preventer has steroids, and is supposed to be taken everyday to limit the risks of Asthma attacks.

The relevier has salbutamol (or something similar) which is a bronchodilator, and helps open up the airways during an asthma attack, this one should only be taken when needed.

hope this helps

Are you supposed to swallow the stuff in an inhaler?

You should inhale deeply as you pump the inhaler. The medicine in the inhaler will travel to your lungs as you breathe in. Try to hold your breath for 7 seconds after you inhale, to give the medicine a chance to work on your lungs before you breath out the air that was in your lungs. You might taste the bitter medicine a little bit; if you taste a lot it means you aimed the inhaler at your tongue and should probably try again so that the medicine can go toward your throat and down to your lungs.

Does ProAir inhaler react with Nebulizer Albuteral?

Albuterol is the active ingredient and can be used either with an inhaler or through a nebulizer. it will do the same thing but just through a different mechanism. My son does better through the nebulizer as more of the medicine gets to his lungs but would be ok through an inhaler for an older person who understands better how to inhale it through the inhaler.
