HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE W/TRIAMTERENE
Maxzide is a combination of hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic, and triamterene, a potassium sparing diuretic. Both function to remove excess fluid from the body & are also used in treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Advil is an over-the-counter NSAID pain reliever; "maxzide" is a prescription diuretic. Advil (ibuprofen) can damage the kidneys when used to excess, and any diuretic forces the kidneys to work harder than they normally do. I do take both, but I'm very careful not to take more than the recommended dose of ibuprofen. I am neither a physician nor a pharmacist; if you want reassurance, consult the pharmacist who gave you the maxzide.
The brands Dyazide and Maxzide, for example, contain the thiazide diuretic hydrochlorothiazide with the potassium-sparing diuretic triamterene
Triamterene-h is a medication that contains a combination of triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide. It is used to treat high blood pressure and reduce excess fluid retention in the body. Triamterene is a diuretic that helps the body get rid of excess salt and water, while hydrochlorothiazide helps prevent the body from absorbing too much salt.
There is nothing in the product information for Maxzide that indicates the possibility of a false positive on a pregnancy test. Also the drug is a diuretic, which pulls fluid from the body, thus diluting the urine. Since a pregnancy test relies on the presence of hormones in the urine to indicate positive of negative, use of a diuretic may cause a false negative rather than a false positive. If you think you may be pregnant, and you take a diuretic on a routine basis, I would encourage you to see your doctor soon. The use of any medication, especially those taken on a daily basis, should be okayed by a physician familiar with you and your prescriptions. You could also get a musch more accurate blood test to determine pregnancy. Good luck! Mr. Dog RN (I am a nurse, not a doctor, and I don't know you from a hole in the wall. Please see your doctor so (s)he can tell you how full of crap I might be. And whatever happens, don't sue me.)
