A combination of hydrocodone (Vicodin) and methamphetamine would be similar to the well-known "speedball" combination (heroin and cocaine) in effects. These effects would likely include strong stimulation, analgesia, and euphoria (with the relative doses of each drug determining the specific balance of effects). While serious interactions at reasonable doses are unlikely, this combination is nonetheless potentially very dangerous.

Because some the the effects of the hydrocodone are mitigated by the methamphetamine to some extent (the drowsiness, decreased respiration, etc.), one might take an overdose without readily realizing it. In particular, opioid overdose, especially in opioid-naive individuals, can be life-threatening. Because of the stimulant effects from the methamphetamine, one might feel as though they can take much more hydrocodone than they otherwise would. This deceptive perception can then lead to an opioid overdose, particularly if more hydrocodone is consumed as the methamphetamine is beginning to wear off. One might lapse into unconsciousness and die from respiratory arrest. Thus, use of this drug combination and others like it is strongly discouraged.
