No Tylenol PM is not addictive. I assume you are taking it to help you sleep instead of for pain? If so, consider just taking an over the counter sleep aid instead. Diphenhydramine is the sleep ingredient in Tylenol PM, so if Tylenol PM works well for you, look for a sleep aid with the same ingredient (Nytol, etc)
Tylenol 3 contains Tylenol and Codeine. Codeine is a less powerful but still addictive narcotic. Hydrocodone or Vicodin, contains Hydrocodone and Tylenol, Vicodin is a middle class narcotic analgesic and is also very addictive. Finally, Oxycodone is a breakthrough pain medication and is high on the list for its effects. Tylenol 3 is lower in strength compared to Hydrocodone and Oxycodone.
any medication can be highly addictive
"Tylenol" is a brand name for acetaminophen, otherwise known as paracetamol in the UK. It is NOT habit forming/addictive in the least. Some forms of Tylenol sold in Canada and elsewhere contain codeine. This is called "Tylenol 3". The CODEINE contained within Tylenol 3 is an opiate and can cause physical dependency when used regularly and full on addiction when abused.
Tylenol 3, just as the name suggests, is a level 3 narcotic. Oxycodone is a level 2 narcotic. This means that when comparing the 2, oxycodone will stay in the body longer, have stronger effects, and be much more addictive.
The maximum dose of acetaminophen for adults is 1000mg at a time, and 4000mg per day. Tylenol 3 contains 300mg of acetaminophen. That makes up to 13 Tylenol 3's during the day. But Tylenol 3 contains 30mg of codeine, and they do not recommend to take more than 240mg of codeine daily. That makes 8 Tylenol 3's all in all at maximum. If you need more acetaminophen, you may try to replace Tylenol 3 with Tylenol 2 or Tylenol 1 (15mg and 8mg of codeine respectively). But, of course, the less you use the better.
