Many psychiatric medications have this unfortunate side-effect (weight gain). It's often the price we pay for better mental health, but there again, weight gain itself can make one feel worse about oneself! Unfortunately the weight will not just disappear when you stop, or cut down medication, unless you take active steps such as restricting your food intake and exercising. But good luck with coming off the tablets anyway - that in itself is an achievement.
Sorry - have realised that I didn't quite answer the question before! However, with a reasonable diet and exercise, you can expect to lose approx 2lbs a week, therefore 40 lbs will take 20 weeks, or 4-5 months - should just about be in shape for the summer!
