Answer The answer is that it depends. In most states psycholgists cannot prescribe medications. However, psyhcologists do have the authority to prescribe in Louisiana, New Mexico, and in some instanses the US Armed Forces. Psycholgists cannot prescribe medications in the other 48 states, but they have the right to contact that patient's GP and suggest that the patient be put on a certain medication.
