Can you take Allegra and Aleve together?

If you are taking a non-sedating antihistamine such as Claritin, Allegra, or Clarinex and you are still experiencing symptoms, it is OK to take a first generation, or sedating antihistamine such as Benadryl or Chlor Trimeton for a short period of time. If you are not sure what kind of anti-histamines you have, consult your pharmacist. Other than Claritin (aka loratidine, Alavert), all other over the counter antihistamines are first generation. Just remember, these will make you sleepy and will cause all secretions to dry up as well as other side effects - talk to your doctor/pharmacist to see if they are appropriate for you. Zyrtec is slightly different than other second generation antihistamines (Claritin, Allegra, etc) and may cause mild side effects similar to those with the first generation medications, so taking something like Benadryl with Zyrtec may increase those side effects. You can also add a nose spray like Flonase, and eye drops like Patanol to relieve symptoms. Additionally the medicine Singulair may provide additional relief as it relieves symptons in a different way. All 3 of these can be added to the above medicines without any known complications.

A professional should be consulted before mixing any medications whether prescription or over the counter. A doctor or pharmacist can warn of any possible interactions. In the case of Allegra and Claritin, there is a duplication of ingredients that can have harmful effects.

You gotta be real careful!!! I had my worst Asthma attack plus a diarrhea, within 1 hour of taking Allegra-D and Advil (Cold & Sinus Plus, with decongestant and antihistamine), and had to be sent to emergency for treatment for 5 hours. ADVIL AND ALLEGRA ARE FINE TO TAKE TOGETHER. ADVIL ALONE IS FOR PAIN ADVIL COLD AND SINUS HOWEVER HAS SIMIALR INGREDIENTS AS ALLEGRA. Yes you may. Allegra "fexofenadine" should have no serious pharmacological reaction with the benadryl "diphenhydramine". Keep in mind they are both antihistamines an drowsiness will occur with the diphenhydramine.

You can take them both on the same day. As long as you take them as if you were going to take the same medicine. Such as following the recommended does and the time schedule in which you take them.

You should not take them both at the same time as they are both antihistamines and can severely dry your mucus membranes. High concentrations of antihistamines in your blood (even the non-drowsy version) can induce drowsiness as the drug penetrates your blood brain barrier.
