Yes, sure you can smoke it. Although I'm not certain how healthy it is. If it's crushed finely, then put in, say, pipe, and the lit and smoked, the effects should rise almost immediately- although they might differ from what you get from your usual oral intake. I don't advise it, but yes, it's possible by all means.

No, not only would you be smoking the inactive ingredients in a pill which can result in nasty problems with your lungs. Hydrocodone is a pro-drug and the only way to get its effects is for it to be absorbed through the stomach.

You should not drink alcohol while on Lortab or its equivalent, Vicodin, despite what you see Sandra Bullock's rehab character doing in 28 Days. Although Nyquil, namely the one used for pain, has acetominophen diluted in a small amount of alcohol as solvent is ok, but not ideal. Drinkng alcohol with the Lortab or Vicodin is inviting trouble since both have acetominophen which when combined with larger amounts of alcohol can cause liver necroses (destruction). In fact, there was a news reporter in the past who did so and needed a liver transplant, and others have died. Further, the supplemental and additive effect of the narcotic, hydrocodone, plus the alcohol can lead to greater intoxicating effect and if overdone can be dangerous or fatal. A good example is the Hale-Bopp comet people who castrated themselves, and took Jello shots with Demerol; all of them died of respiratory arrest. Although small amounts of alcohol probably will not hurt you; large amounts or over time can, or if you have liver problems. The label from the pharmacy will probably warn you. If you are going to drink, better to not to do so at all or else very small amounts or do it with an ibuprofen or aspirin substitute instead of acetominophen based Rx. -L. Chiang, DDS
