Heart Bypass Surgery Saves Lives?
Heart bypass surgery is a life-saving surgery for individuals
that have suffered from a severe heart attack and suffer from
arteries that have hardened due to arteriosclerosis and become too
narrow to allow for proper blood flow. Basically this procedure
takes veins or arteries from other locations in the individual's
body, and grafts them to the needed coronary arteries. Usually this
surgery will be performed while the patient's heart is stopped and
so requires the use of a cardiopulmonary bypass, which is where the
name of the surgery comes from.
