Actually, if you wash regularly, they should not smell. But people who don't follow personal hygiene may find themselves giving off an odor. That said, while this question may be meant as a joke, it raises a very real question about bacteria and odor and waste. The anal area (or the butt, if you prefer) is where we eliminate our solid waste from, and waste material does have an odor. This is another good reason for cleaning yourself thoroughly after a bowel movement.
