Where do they send crazy people?

• long term - personal psychiatrist or psychiatric clinic
• short term crisis - emergency room which will admit to psychiatric ward or other available facility
• another option - let the police pick you up and take you to emergency room for involuntary hold on psychiatric ward or other available facility

I have used all three of the above. I have only had one bad experience and that was on a voluntary admission when the emergency room sent me to another facility.

If a person is deemed to be "insane" or "unable" to care for themselves they are generally sent to a mental health facility. Mental health facilities vary in that each can tend to several types of mental instability, or they can specialize in one specific type of mental illness.

Crazy people can be put into asylums, or care facilities where they can be properly cared for. In these institutions, the people will receive medications and proper counseling to help them.
