If you get bite by a animal with it and do not treat it you could die
Animals have their own rabies vaccine that veterinarians administer.
You don't, at least in America. Rabies vaccine must, by law, be administered by a registered vet.
the post exposure prophylaxis is human rabies immunoglobulin followed by human diploid cell vaccine
ofcourse. better to take vaccine
A rabies vaccine was developed in 1885 by Louis Pasteur and Émile Roux. Until that time all human cases of rabies were fatal. The vaccine produced is a killed vaccine. Today, only 1-2 deaths per year occur in USA from rabies. These are usually caused by bats. For more information see the link below:
Human diploid cell vaccine (HDCV) is used to prevent rabies infection. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the rabies virus. HDCV is administered after exposure to the virus to prevent the development of rabies.
Rabies shots should be given in deltoids or triceps muscle. Vaccine must never be given in hip region. You may give the vaccine in fatty tissue, making it useless. Alternately the vaccine may be given, as intra-dermal injections, as about 8 doses of 0.1 ml, on day zero, to achieve rapid increase in antibody titre.
To prevent rabbies spreading on from different animals and to stop humans getting it if the animal that bites the human has rabbies.
Humans do not usually get sick when being accidentally injected with the Blackleg vaccine for animals. These vaccinations only contain the dead virus. It is important to keep an eye on the injection site and to watch for symptoms just as a precaution.
Rabies. Although, if the dog has had it's rabies shot you don't need a vaccine. You just need to get the wound cleaned. Go to your doctor and tell him. He'll know what to do.
In the United States, the first rabies vaccine can be given to a puppy or kitten at 16 weeks of age. This vaccine is considered effective for one year, after which the dog or cat can be given a multi-year rabies vaccine.
