It is not yet known exactly how it ended up in Mexico, but the latest investigation suggests that it originated in pigs in the US, probably Texas, at a pig farm and either an infected pig ended up in a herd in Mexico, or a farm worker went from the Texas pig farm to a Mexican pig farm and spread the virus that then began to be transmitted human to human.
