It is important to handle and store condoms properly. Long exposure to air, heat, and light makes them more likely to break.
+ Store them in a cool, dry place.
+ Keep them in their individual foil or plastic pouch.
+ Check the expiration date on the packet prior to use.
+ Use the condom immediately after opening, don't use it if the condom has been sitting out on the bedside table overnight.
+ Use each condom only once, don't wash it at the sick and reuse it.
- Don't store them in your wallet, glove compartment or trunk in your car or your back pants pocket.
- When you are ready for use don't use the condom if the pouch is punctured or torn.
- Don't use scissors, your teeth or other sharp objects, to open the pouch.
You simply wrap-up the tampon and throw it in the bin, just like pads or softcups.
When away from home you can get scented plastic bags from the sanitary product isle which allow you to wrap-up your used tampon in toilet paper then this bag to prevent odour or blood leaking through the toilet paper if you need to put the tampon in your bag - e.g. if there is no bin available. You'll also notice in public bathrooms they will have a bin next to the toilet to dispose of used tampons, pads and softcups, but in your own bathroom you may want to have a small trashcan.
Do not ever flush tampons - even if some tampon companies claim tampons are flushable to make them seem more convenient. Tampons don't break-up in water and can expand so cause blockages, tampons can also bypass sewage treatment so end-up in water ways where they can harm wildlife.
Always wrap-up tampons in tissue or sanitary disposal bags and throw them away in the trash. This is why they make sanitary disposal bags (although toilet paper works just fine) and have bins in cubicles.
If you use condoms, then water based creams should be used. Oil based can cause harm to the latex used in condoms.
