One of the most commonly known and successful gymnast representing Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games is Beth Tweddle.
Beth Tweddle
In the championships Beth has competed in, she has won the most in uneven bars and then floor exercise.
I would say Beth Tweddle . She won gold in the European Championships.
She has won many medals and titles, but her most recent accomplishment is winning world champ on bars at the 2010 Worlds in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Beth Tweedle is famous for being a British Artistic Gymnast, She was born in South Africa but represents Britain. She has won one Bronze Olympic medal for the uneven bars in 2012. She also won the 8th season Dancing on Ice in 2013.
GYMNASTICS!
You can build muscles through weightlifting. Use dumbbells for biceps and triceps exercises; most gyms have weight machines specialized to strengthen other muscle groups.
It depends on personal choice and whether you mean who is the most successful. Possible answers would be: Beth Tweddle, Annika Reeder, Rowena Roberts, Debbie Southwick, Lisa Mason, Rochelle Douglas, Holly Murdoch, Sharna Murray, Suzanne Dando etc...

Sit-ups will most benefit your abdominals and thigh muscles - as those are the groups doing most of the work.
I would say any exercise will eventually build muscle. In the case of swimming, muscles will be strengthened, and therefore built all over the body, but not to the point of being massive, depending on how much swimming is done on a regular basis. If swimming is done regularly, muscles will be toned and any excess weight lost. The whole body is used for buoyancy and movement during swimming and is an excellent all over exercise. Heart muscle and lungs will strengthen too. Respiration will become more even and have a positive effect all over the body. Most exercises will build muscles. Swimming will help build muscles but if will not be the most aesthetically obvious for quite a while if that is your aim.
