Tough question. With dogs, the treatment options that humans benefit from just aren't there. Lung cancer in dogs is usually fatal. That it usually occurs in older dogs is a good thing in that their normal life expectancy may exhaust before mortality from cancer sets in Cancer treatments for your dog are often extremely expensive. Surgery is one potentially viable option, as is chemotherapy. There is always a chance that the dog may survive from the therapy, but it's not at all certain. More to the point (for me anyway), the dog's qualitiy of life declines during therapy, no matter how diligent you are in your treatment. Without knowing the type of malignancy, it's impossible to speculate on the amount of time left. I would estimate roughly 2 years max, although full remission is (rarely) obtained, and more aggressive malignancies won't give you two years. This is a good time to look at your bank account, and have a long, serious talk with your Vet, and make a treatment plan that includes changes based on progress. The focus should be quality of life for the dog. Were it my animal, I'd focus on giving it a try, but making the rest of my dog's life as pleasant, fun and exicting for the dog as possible. One last comment. In researching this, I noticed quite a few websites promising miracle cures (usually for about $59.95 US). Even for humans, there is no miracle cure. I wish there was but it's not so. Please don't get your hopes raised and your money wasted by indulging in one of these unpleasant farces. If I can answer any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Best of luck to you and your dog.
It would depend on the type of cancer, the diet and what has been done recently. Our dog was recently diagnosed with Liposarcoma - they say she MIGHT make it 3 months because of the biopsy (encourages cancer to grow quicker) and the nature of that type of cancer. However, we have detoxed her, boosted her immune system and given her herbs that work on cancers. The vet was amazed how much her tumor has shrunk. Also a raw diet is essential. The crap they put in commercial dog food is very bad for them. I would recommend a holistic vet, find a local herbalist AND research on the internet. I see some sites selling stuff for cancer for dogs for outrageous prices when you can make it yourself for so much cheaper. Please don't put the poor dog through chemo. That might give her a little more time (opposed to doing nothing) but will make her quality of life terrible with the same result in the end. Many cancers can be cured with the right herbs and diet. Give it a shot - you have nothing to lose but your best friend. Also, we saw our dogs tumor double in size after having her shots. You can have her blood drawn and sent somewhere in tx to check titer levels (to tell them her shots are still working - rabies shots frequently last 7-10 yrs yet they make us give them every 1-3 yrs! Of course I didn't find this out until after the fact) Best of luck to you!
It varies from person to person. Some of the variables include:
Particular lung cancer type and location: Several lung cancer types have spread to nearby lymph nodes, or larger but have not spread to any lymph nodes
Your age: Younger people tend to live longer than older people with lung cancer
Your sex: The life expectancy for woman with lung cancer is higher at each stage of lung cancer
Time of diagnosis:Being healthy overall at the time of diagnosis is associated with a longer life expectancy, and a greater ability to withstand treatments that may extend survival
Respond to treatment: Side effects of treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and radiation therapy varies.
Complications of lung cancer: Complications such as blood clots can lower lung cancer life expectancy
Smoking: Continued smoking after a diagnosis of lung cancer appears to lower survival.
There is no data showing the average lifespan of someone who has chondrosarcoma cancer because it all depends on what age the person was diagnosed. The 5 year life expectancy is about 60 percent once you have been diagnosed.

The life expectancy of someone diagnosed with COPD at age 50 differs from person to person. It's all dependent on your diet and how well you take care of yourself physically. If you do then you will have a higher life expectancy than those who don't.
Varies a lot from person to person. Can be as little as a few days/weeks to a year. Over one year is rare, but does happen. My Mother In Law was 78 when diagnosed with stage IVB cancer and was given 2 to 4 weeks due to her overall age and health.
The life expectancy with someone with carcinoid lung cancer depends on the stage of the cancer. For people with stage 1, the life expectancy is 93%. For people with stage 5, the life expectancy is 57%.
Life expectancy among people with brain cancer depends on several factors such as the stage at which it was diagnosed, the age of the patient and the treatment received. Depending on the stage of the cancer, average life expectancy is anywhere from a few months to 5 years.
The life expectancy of someone with spleen cancer is approximately 16 percent. Cancer of the spleen is extremely rare, but has a 86 percent morbidity rate.
With treatment, patients with Hypothyroidism can live a normal life.
The average life expectancy after myelocytic leukemia is diagnosed is only about 8 months. Myelocytic leukemia is a type of cancer that develops due to mutations after radiation or chemotherapy.
Life Expectancy
About 5 to 7 years.
One diagnosed with Mesolthelioma can have life expectancy's ranging variously. Sever cases can have onset of symptoms followed by a very quick downturn. Other more mild cases can leave those suffering with far longer life expectancys into the the decades.
