∙ 10y agoAn orchiectomy is the removal of one or both testicles through surgery. The purpose is its done to lower the level of testosterone, to treat cancer, and the removal of the testicle is the usual treatment if a tumor is present within the gland itself.
A person who has had a radical neck dissection will stay in the hospital several days after the operation, and sometimes longer if surgery to remove the primary tumor
Cervical lymph nodes are removed in a radical neck dissection.
This treatment approach is limited to small or medium tumors. The goal of the surgery is to cause tumor shrinkage or at least limit the growth of the tumor
A high reccurence rate with a 'scoop and curettage approach' (just scooping out the tumor) at rates as high as 95%. Lower reccurence rates with a resection of the area (removing the tumor along with all adjacent soft tissue/bone that was affected with margins on all sides) at only about 5%. This surgery is more radical as people often lose teeth and large sections of jawbone but it is better when looking at the rate of reccurence.
A hard tumor is not a tumor
Gamma rays are used in radiotherapy to target and kill cancer cells. The high-energy gamma rays are directed at the tumor site to destroy cancer cells and shrink the tumor. This targeted approach helps minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
A limited or modified lymphadenectomy removes only some of the lymph nodes in the area around a tumor; a total or radical lymphadenectomy removes all of the lymph nodes in the area.
