The Large Intestine (or Colon) is the preffered name of the "big intestine" and is ironically shorter than the small intestine (large=2.5m small=7m after death but a little shorter in life). The colon can be looked at in 4 sections the Ascending Colon, Transverse Colon, Descending Colon, and Sigmoid Colon. All these parts have roughly the same function, they absorb water from the waste material as well as hold the fecease until it ready to be released (to an extent). Along the full length of the colon are three muscles called the Teniae Coli which are shorter than the colon itself casuing ot to bunch up and exagerating the bulged effect often seen (the individual bulges are called Haustra). Basically the "big" intestine is more commonly reffered to as the Colon and its function is to absorb water (not nutrients) from the waste.
Small-- digest food and send the nutrients to the body, the wastes to the anus. Large-- absorb excess water.
Your gut is your entire digestive system, spreading from your mouth to anus. Most people commonly refer to their intestines as their gut. Your digestive tracts job is to remove nutrients, from food, and send it to your blood stream to be taken all around your body

digestive system
A body system has its own job. It can be digestive, skeletal, or nervous. But that's not all!
It produces digestive enzymes then releases enzymes into the small intestine to help break down food
