Carbonel Vaseline is a topical product from the Watkins Company also known as medicated or â??black salveâ??. The product can be used for a variety of purposes such as burns, cuts, scrapes and even sunburn. The product has a soothing analgesic property along with healing.
Carbolated Vaseline was a salve used for injury or infection. It was basically a salve that had the properties of Vaseline and Peroxide combined. It was not the usual color of Vaseline, it was nicknamed "black salve". It is no longer used in the United States because of side effects that could cause the skin to burn.
"Carbolated" in the name refers to the addition of phenol (carbolic acid). It was also marketed as Vaseline brand First Aid Petroleum Jelly, occasionally with "Medicated" included in the name somewhere. Vaseline has discontinued this particular version of their product, but Vaseline Intensive Care lotion contains the related compound phenoxyethanol.J.R. Watkins' Petro-Carbo Salve (available, among other places, at Walgreen's) is a similar product.
Vasoline was created in 1994-06.

vasoline and/or a cold quarter

Vasoline is used for a few reasons during the tattoo process. 1. It reduces bleeding. 2. Reduces ink from spreading on the skin, with the vasoline it balls up so that the artist can see the stencil better. 3. Allows for easier cleaning of excess ink, so as the artist does a line the ink will ball and can be wiped off easier with out smudging the ink everywhere. 4. While working on big pieces, if an artist likes to finish off sections at a time, the artist can apply vasoline to the finished area so as to reduce the staining effect. It is more than safe to have vasoline put on your tattoo during the process, however check that the vasoline is clean and that the artist has taken it out with a new wooden tongue depresser...this is done to avoid contamination.
stops it from bleeding and makes it easyer to tattoo
A light coat of vasoline on the seal will prevent this.
