Many people with Epilepsy experience an aura before a seizure starts. An aura is normally a sensation that a seizure is potentially coming, or the first stage of a seizure. Sometimes nothing happens after the aura and a full seizure does not actually happen. The nature of an aura can vary from person to person.
The petit mal or absence seizures often are. However, people having any kind of seizure can experience an aura. Partial Seizures are most often associated with auras. These all three of these are similar types of seizure.
Complex partial seizures have no known cause other than coming from a form of epilepsy. These seizures are often preceded by a seizure aura, and usually resort in an altered state of conciousness.

An aura is really the very beginning of a seizure and occurs in a very tiny area of the brain. This spot is called the focus and can occur anywhere on the brain but will correspond with where the seizures come from, often an area that has been injured and has scar tissue. Depending on where that focus is will determine how the seizure will manifest itself. An olfactory aura would indicate that the seizure is starting in the area of the brain that controls the sensation and memory of smell. Epilepsy is diagnosed by a person having seizures. For some people the seizures are frequent and strong. Someone having a milder form will not get seizures very often. The seizures they get will be very mild, maybe manifesting themselves as short periods of loss of conciousness, or even just feeling a little "strange" (hard to really describe this as it is different for different people) for a moment and then feeling fine. They may feel like a seizure is coming on, but it never actually happens. Most seizures are preceded by something as a person feels it coming on. This is normally called an aura, which is different for different people, the strange feeling I mentioned. It could be a physical sensation. The seizure will then follow. Someone with a mild form may get an aura, but not have a full seizure at all. some of the other side symptoms are that the person see double of evrything and sometime walks like they are drunk

Human beings have aura, and you can see it. But, ghosts are said not to have aura, because they are not alive, but when you see aura and it is not from you or any other human, then there is a ghost near by. Ghosts do indeed have aura.
The word "aura" exists in latin, meaning air or breeze. The English meaning of aura, I believe, would translate to spiritus.
