Cystic Fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disorder. it is thought that 1 in 25 caucasians have the carrier CF gene. A normal allele codes for a membrane protein that transports Cl- between cells. if this transport is not present then this Cl- builds up making cells thicker and stickyer particularly in the lungs and digestive tract. This is hard to clear and attracts bacteria.

Just because it is a resessive gene doesn't mean that a child cannot get CF. For example, let's do eyes. Say a mother had green eyes, and father had brown in my families case,I ended up with green eyes which is a resessive gene.
