Why are cigarettes addicting?

Nicotine in cigarettes is what makes them so addictive. Nicotine is a stimulant that releases beta-endorphins, the natural chemical in our brains that makes us feel good. Smokers will reach for a cigarette when they are stressed as it will make them feel calm, in control but alert at the same time. It is easy to get used to this feeling and need it more and more but as the body can't store nicotine, more cigarettes are needed to keep producing the same effect.

Is human flesh addictive?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that human flesh is addictive. Cannibalism is a cultural and psychological taboo, but there is no inherent addictive quality to human flesh.

Does the human body naturally produce small amounts of nicotine?

No. However the body has nicotinic receptors in nerve cells- places where nicotine binds to cause it's psychoactive effects. These receptors are probably also activated by substances created by the body which have a structure very similar to nicotine- it's not as though we'd evolve to all have a very special receptor created for the sole purpose of responding to a drug!

When you smoke why is it addictive?

the chemicals in the cigorette are designed to make the human body want more, or become accustomed to smoking every day the tabaco has nicotine...................DONT SMOKE.....................your body gets use to it and it wants it more Nicotine is produced NATURALLY by the tobacco plant (and other plants in the Solanaceae family, such as potato, eggplant, tomato and bell pepper). On the other hand, salt, sugar and flavourings are deliberately added to junk food to make them "addictive".

What does nicottine do to your lungs?

Nicotine does not have a direct impact on your lungs. Rather it has an additive effect when combined with the other substances where nicotine is most found to enter the human body, from cigarette smoke, that has many negative effects on the lungs. Cigarette smoke acts as a carcinogen (cancer causing agent) and causes the buildup of tar in the lungs both of which can lead to health problems obviously. In addition it is very addictive which means you will crave the source of nicotine... more cigarettes. Nicotine can temporarily increase blood pressure which may add some stress to your lungs, and although not a direct cause of cancer will delay apoptosis (programmed cell death) often speeding tumor growth.
