It's usually the result of muscle strain. Try strengthening your abdominal muscles and the Back pain should get better. Sit-ups are not recommended if you're having back pain, so start something a little less strenuous at first, first go to stretching exercises, like pulling one knee to your chest while you're lying flat. Don't do anything that causes pain, just a little stretching and pulling. Work one knee up then the other. Once you can pull a knee up to stretch the affected muscles, try both knees. After you've diminished the pain that way go to some abdominal strengthening exercises, such as crunches while lying in bed then build up to more serious muscle toning. If everything else is ok, you should be able to prevent back pain by building up your abs. If pain becomes severe or if you have any tingling down either leg or have any other problems, see a physician immediately. It depends on several factors... Where in your back is it (over the spine, off to one side of the spine, over the hip area)? Male or female What is your age? (older women > men = osteoporosis with spinal vertebral compression fractures) Is there a history of trauma (falls, auto accident, etc)? Is there a painful "lump" where the pain is? Do you have any shooting pains down your leg? (If so, get to a physician immediately) Once a diagnosis is made, your doctor will recommend the appropriate treatment/therapy.
My interpretation of your question is that you went to bed feeling fine and woke up with back pain? If so, there are a few possibilities. One of the most common causes for back pain in the morning is sleeping too long on a mattress that offers no good back support. Try sleeping with a pillow under your knees if you are on your back, as this will force your low back into the matress a bit and may help. If the pain does not go away as fast as you like, or if it keeps coming back every morning there are 2 recommendations I would make:
1) If your matress is old, try getting a new one.
2) If you dont want to assume its your mattress, and want an informed opinion, go see a chiropractor and they will be able to help you determine the cause of your back pain, probably alleviate the pain in the short term, and give you advice on how to prevent it from coming back.
