Most likely the exact same thing (bacteria or virus, even fungal infection).

No tonsils does not improve ones immune system.

It just mean they do not swell up anymore when you get an infection.

A sore throat caused by irritants or from lack of moisture in the air, will respond to drinking water or gentle gargling with a mild salt water rinse. If this doesn't improve, with or with out a fever. Give your doctors office a call.

Beta haemolytic streptococci is the most common cause of sore throat, in the age group 5 to 15. Diphtheria was another bacteria. There are large number of viruses that can cause the sore throat.
