A long term effect from chlamydia for females is pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can damage fallopian tubes which can lead to the long term effects of infertility, and increased risk for ectopic pregnancy.

For males chlamydia can lead to epididymitis, infertility, chronic pain in the testicles, and inflammation in the eye and urethra (Reiter's Syndrome).
