YES. Anytime you have any sexual activity you can catch something. Oral sex is still sex and has all the risks involved in intercourse. The chances may be less for some things, but it still exists.

Yes you can get STIs in your mouth.

  • Herpes is the STD that most commonly can spread from mouth to genitals, and from genitals to mouth. It can be transmitted when sores are present, and also just before the sores show up, so it's possible to spread it without having symptoms. Contrary to many people's beliefs, both type 1 and type 2 can infect the mouth and genitals -- there's no type specific to one location.
  • Gonorrhea can infect the throat and requires treatment; most often, it has no symptoms. It is more difficult to cure gonorrhea of the throat, and injectable antibiotics are required.
  • While chlamydia may affect the throat, the CDC reports that it's not clear if chlamyda in the throat causes problems and is transmissible; it's also not clear what antibiotics will eliminate the infection.
  • The HPV subtypes that can infect the genitals can also infect a person's mouth or throat. Normally, oral or pharyngeal infection with HPV have no symptoms. There is no test or treatment available for HPV infection, although complications like warts or cancer may rarely occur. Usually, the infection goes away on its own. The CDC reports that oral HPV is found in 7% of people in the US.
  • Syphilis can transfer to and affect any body part that comes in contat with the bacterium, including the mouth.
  • Trichomonas does not normally infect the mouth; infections outside the genitals are very rare.

Most STDs can be spread orally.

Yes herpes can be in your mouth.

Herpes is one of the most misunderstood std's out there. The simple truth is that 90% of the adult population has it but doesn't realize it. If you ever get a fever blister you have herpes. The only difference between mouth herpes and the other kind is simply where it's located. It's the same virus, resting at the back of your brain until something triggers it and you get an outbreak. There is no difference in oral herpes and the other kind, just the location, and there is no cure for herpes, though drugs such as Valtrax can stop an ourbreak once you get one. Odds are these wrestlers already had the virus and why the big to do here is beyond me. You may know more about herpes on the dating and support site POZmingle. Good luck to you all!

Canker sores are not caused by an STD, cold sores are a form of herpes. If you have a cold sore and you perform oral sex on someone you can give them genital herpes.

It's possible but doesn't commonly happen. In order to have a chance of that happening some one would have to give a person with a break out of genital herpes oral sex.
