Why is cutting yourself a problem?

Self-harm is a problem not only for the obvious reason that you are hurting yourself, but also because it can become an addiction. When someone cuts themself, the body releases endorphins that can be addictive. In addition to this, there is the risk of death, even if the self-harmer is not trying to commit suicide. Self-harm also indirectly hurts friends and family.

What kind of schizophrenia do you have if you self-harm?

There is no specific type of schizophrenia that is associated with self-harm. Self-harm in schizophrenia is generally associated with delusions. For example, a patient with schizophrenia may believe that if he or she cuts off a finger then the world will be saved. Because self-harm in schizophrenia is associated with delusions, patients with paranoid schizophrenia or undifferentiated schizophrenia may be more likely to self-harm than patients with other types of schizophrenia.

Should you go to treatment if you self harm?

I personally believe you shouldn't have to go to treatment if your a self harmer. People who self harm or cut themselves use it as a way to cope with certain emotions. I am only saying this because i went to treatment and along the way i picked up a habit of cutting myself that i have now stopped because i made a choice to change. your parents or friends may think because your cutting and self harming that you are suicidal or if your self harming your probably going to harm someone else but that's not the case. But i guess it could lead up to that if you let it. My point is cutting and self harm shouldn't be something you use as a coping skill but something you learn from and choose to stop. Keeping something like that should be shared with someone you trust, and love and in hopes to telling someone that wont over react at the situations which could escalate you into regreting what you said and doing it again. which could be a vicious cycle. So my hopes for you is to make a choice and for you to decide is this really what i want and do I want to change.

Should 'self harm' be hyphenated?

Yes, "self-harm" should be hyphenated. When two words are used together as a compound adjective before a noun, they are typically hyphenated to clarify their relationship. In this case, "self" is acting as an adjective modifying "harm," so the hyphen helps to connect the two words and convey their combined meaning effectively.
