What causes duodenum spasms?

For many years i had suffered severe abdominal pain and had many trips to the doctor to no avail. It was finally narrowed down to the use of codiene(panadiene.) I would sometimes take a couple to get rid of a headache after a night out . The pain came on gradually for 10 or so mins and keep building up until i was doubled over and panting, shallow rapid breathing was the only way i could get relief. This would typically go on for about 3 spasms each lasting 5 or so mins with about 10 mins in between. I have now switched to panadol and no more spasms. Hope someone out there benefits from this.
